Poona, called Pune and “Queen of the Deccan”, is located in the western Maharashtra and is the second largest city after Mumbai. In Pune Marathas, Peshwas and many other leaders rule, and thus is considered as Marathas Pune.
Pune is known for the IT hub and for the economic sector. 1. Aga Khan Palace
Aga Khan Palace is one of the top tourist places a person ever visits and was built in 1892. It is a landmark of India’s history and many events are associated with it. Aga Khan Palace is famously known for its architecture. Sarojini Naidu, Mahadev Desai, Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba Gandhi were imprisoned in Aga Khan Palace and now famously known as Gandhi National Memorial Society. Making Khadi is one of the activities people do. The palace also has a museum which has an amazing collection of pictures. There are also other items like the personal belongings of Gandhi. The Palace also has the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi which were buried under the ground. In 2003, the monument was officially declared of national importance.
2. Shaniwar Wada
A historical landmark and the most visited tourist spot. It was built during the Peshwa in 1732 of the Maratha Empire. Shaniwar Wada is among the top ten buildings of Peshwas. Shaniwar Wada is made full of stone. The architecture is beautifully made in ancient times and now tourists love to see how in ancient times, palaces were built. Shaniwar Wada has its own value and is worthy enough to visit. This beautiful place never fails to amaze the tourists with the beauty of the palace and the fountains, forts and the statues.
3. Dagdusheth Halwai Temple
Lord Ganesha Temple is a major beautiful spot in Pune. This temple is made purely of gold and even the Lord Ganesh’s idol is made from pure gold. The idol is very huge with around 7 feet height and 4 feet width. Minimum thousands of tourists visit Dagdusheth Halwai Temple every year. The annual ten-day celebrations known as Ganeshotsav is the main festival which was conducted at the temple and at that time many celebrities and ministers came to pay tribute to the Lord Ganesha. Devotees of the temple offered money, gold, coconut to the Lord Ganesha which goes in trust. This temple is designed ethically and very simple so that tourists love it and people can also sight see from outside too. Khadakwasla Dam is the main source of water for Pune. The sunrise and sunset points are bliss to anyone ever seen. It is the natural view and is the main reason tourists visit Khadakwasla. It is built on river Mutha which flows throughout the city and supplies water in Pune. Khadakwasla is a perfect picnic spot and the roadways and the scenic beauty are amazing. For the cycling lovers it is one of the cycling spots. In the rainy season, tourists love to watch the natural beauty of the river.
5. Vetal Tekdi
Vetal Tekdi is one of the famous spots in Pune, and a person can see the entire city standing on the top of the Vetal hill. The scene of the city from the top of this place is beautiful and the trekking places near me experience Vetal hill before sunset is a pure bliss. In Vetal Tekdi, a person gets to see plantations of many species, deforestation and other activities a person can see. Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park is one of the famous tourist places in Pune located in Katraj. The location and the weather are perfect for animals and nature lovers and is a perfect destination to be visited with kids. 7. Sinhagarh Fort
Sinhagarh fort is located in the west of Pune. It is considered as one of the best morning treks ever, especially in the monsoon season as it feels like a person is walking/ trekking in the clouds. Shinde Chhatri is the main attraction of tourists because of the architecture.The beauty of the building is intensified due to the presence of fine, attractive carvings. The idols of the saints of the Shiva temple are made of yellowstone and the floor is made from blackstone which is perfect in itself.
